I have created a data file for the module, which includes parasite species richness (log transformed), sampling effort (log transformed number of studies on the host species), and several ecological traits including adult body mass (log transformed), population density and geographic range size (log transformed). I uploaded the file to Continue reading Data set and pdf file uploaded→
I have received the data from Charlie. I will fill in the gaps in the documents this couple of days. Meanwhile, I am trying to make a new version of the documents using LaTeX. I’m still very slow, but it’s kind of fun 🙂 Which referencing tool do you recommend Continue reading Data and LaTeX→
I am back in Athens, Georgia (East time). I usually work in the office 10am – 6 pm, and should be on g-chat all this time. I will join a telephone (yes, only voice no face) conference at 2pm today with a group of people including Charlie Nunn. I will Continue reading Back to work→
I was editing the student instructions today. I will be traveling from June 24th to July 6th — I will be back to office (Athens) on July 7th. I will not be able to post here until then, but I will work on the project in the following weekends to Continue reading draft editing and travel→
I wrote solutions for section 1 and 3. Section 2 has more open questions, and I will need to finalize the data to answer the questions.
I am going to write up the instructor solutions this week. Because I do not have the dataset ready, yet, I will add in graphs later. This is the week of the EEID conference, and I think Natalie is there. I doubt that I would hear from them this week. Continue reading Instructor solutions→
I have uploaded the new files (with the same file names, though) to the DataONE plone folder.
I made some modifications according to Carly’s comments. In my experience of teaching similar material in an infectious disease computer lab, the students should have learned about parasite aggregation and heard about poisson and negative binomial distributions. Nevertheless, it wouldn’t hurt to include some information in the instruction, or maybe Continue reading student instruction→
I am writing up the student instructions. I finished the intruction page yesterday. I will upload whatever I’ve got onto the DataONE internal website at the end of the day, in case anyone is curious about progress.
This week, I will be writing up the instructions for student to investigate the correlations between host traits and parasite diversity, including the main instructions, and instructions for analyzing the data in R. I have gathered most of the R functions needed for this module. I will be following the Continue reading New week→
