This is the last day I stay in Oldenburg, in Olaf’s lab (office, actually). I will be on the train all day again to go back to the south, so I won’t be on skype. Sorry!

I have been trying out this package recently for some other projects. There are several functions (e.g. PD, PSV, etc) that are very handy for looking at phylogenetic structure of the species in different communities — alpha and beta diversity. I think this will be a good tool for the Continue reading Useful R package: picante
I am at University of Oldenburg, which is actually Carl von Ossietsky University of Oldenburg, in Oldenburg, Germany. I will give a talk this afternoon, about using phylogeny to understand biodiversity patterns, mainly from my PhD dissertation project. I have emailed Charles Nunn again and will post again if there’s Continue reading Seminar today
I will be traveling on train for about 8 hours tomorrow, to Oldenburg, in the state which is the center of the e. coli incidents recently…. I will be there for the rest of the week. After tomorrow, I will keep posting any progress if I don’t get sick and Continue reading 8 hours on train
Quite a few papers have been published trying to describe and explain patterns of parasite species richness (PSR) in primates. I dug out a few that I think provide some major findings as below. Charles Nunn is obviously one of the key authors you should google if you are looking Continue reading Some references
I contacted Charlie’s postdoc, Natalie Cooper, who is a friend of mine about the primate parasite data. They are starting a workshop today and will be too busy to talk about the data. Natalie suggested I email Charlie again next week. In any way, I think this will get sorted Continue reading Data and analyses
I am framing the first module about parasite diversity and host traits. The first part of the this module will be focused on describing patterns of parasite diversity in the selected host species (depending on the data availability, see below for more details). Mainly, this is to get students to Continue reading Questions and data
