As my summer with DataOne is coming to a close, I am focusing on creating a GitHub contribution instruction guide for the RDA Metadata Standard Directory page. I am also working on identifying metadata standard uses.
This past week, I have worked to identify the best ways to address metadata standards uses and how to identify new or updated standards. I spent some time working with various library and information science academic databases, and came across a few interesting articles. In my reading (and from information I have taken away from various classes at DU) there seems to be various ways of identifying standards, but the most handy especially for librarians, is to to work closely with department heads and people who are working closely with specific data sets and information. As a librarian (in training), the scientists who work directly with data can be an incredible resource in identifying the most useful metadata standard for the data.
I am continuing to work on ways to identify new metadata standards and have come across a resource that may be helpful which can be found here: http://datastar.mannlib.cornell.edu/home
I will also spend this week preparing a GitHub instruction guide.
