This week, I’ve been looking at metadata registries, coming with up a solid list of registries to evaluate and thinking about the best ways to evaluate them.ย While there is plenty of literature that evaluates metadata quality, so far, in the literature I have not seen any studies that specifically evaluate the registries, so I have been trying to find literature that evaluates other similar technologies, such as online catalogs or digital libraries.
Here are some of the registries that I am beginning to evaluate:

As I’ve been exploring these I have been thinking of ways to create a rubric for evaluation.ย Some of the repeated themes are:
- services/tools
- education/training
- resources/documentation.
The goal for the following week is to complete the evaluation of several of these registries and create a list of questions for the metadata providers.
Angela, great catching up a bit last week. Yes, looking at evaluation literature of other systems will be useful and help you think outside of the box. I didn’t know about the http://tools.niem.gov/niemtools/home.iepd, excellent!! will have to look. Currently at Big Data/long tails workshop (http://icis.anl.gov/programs/summer2012-3b). It is making me think where might or does.. metadata registration, systems, factors… blah blah.. fit on the long tail? let’s discuss when we see each other next, and engaged w/John and Joan too. keep up the good work! j
