June 2, 2011 – Prelim Searching PANGAEA 21

Next I’m working with the PANGAEA dataset #21, whose article reference was found to be cited by 9 articles in ISI WoS.

During the process of searching, I’ve also been dealing with a couple technical issues.  For some reason I keep getting redirected away from Science Direct full text articles and am in communication with the library technology people about this.  Also, the backspace key on my laptop (my only computer) keyboard popped off and although I attempt to put it back on, it keeps finding a way to pop back off again (ugh).

On with the research!

Database: ISI Web of Knowledge

Searching Topic: Pre-Tommotian age of the lower Pestrotsvet Formation in the Selinde section on the Siberian platform: carbon isotopic evidence (this is the article reference title)

Results: 1 – the Google doc spreadsheet shows 2 occurrences of this article were found with a total of 9 citations, but I could not find another occurrence of this article by searching various parts of the title, author name, or journal name and year.  The two additional references stored in the dropbox from the original WoS search were found using the Google Scholar cited by function.

Searching Observations: A total of 11 publications were found that cite the article reference.  Like before, no publications were found searching with the DOI or the weblink to the data (http://doi.pangaea.de/10.1594/PANGAEA.688263) other than the article reference/ data set when using Google.  All articles but one were found using the cited by functions in ISI Web of Knowledge and Google Scholar.  The one additional article was found using ProQuest Research Library with a search for the title of the article reference.
