SeaIce is raring to go!

Posted on July 18, 2013 by cjpatton — No Comments ↓

It’s been a couple weeks since I’ve managed to get a post on here, but I promise I’ve been coding my buns off. The online SeaIce metadictionary is now complete with all of the planned crowd-sourcing features: Propose a term, edit/remove terms you own, Comment on others’ terms, Cast an Continue reading SeaIce is raring to go!→

Scoring and reputation in the metadictionary

Posted on July 2, 2013 by cjpatton — No Comments ↓

I spent the last couple days working on a system for scoring and classifying metadictionary terms with reputation based crowd-sourcing. It’s hard to succinctly describe the goals of the system I’m proposing, but I’ll try: Each newly proposed term should have an equal chance of succeeding, despite reputation. At the Continue reading Scoring and reputation in the metadictionary→

Week 4 – new site features, beginning crowd-sourcing

Posted on June 29, 2013 by cjpatton — No Comments ↓

The SeaIce metadictionary is now complete with a robust term/definition search engine and a commenting feature. We are now ready to begin populating the database with real terms. There are potentially a number of interface design improvements that could be implemented; fortunately, there should be time towards the end of Continue reading Week 4 – new site features, beginning crowd-sourcing→

Week 3 – Essential features and web deployment

Posted on June 23, 2013 by cjpatton — No Comments ↓

This week was lots and lots of coding. With only a couple hick-ups (now resolved), the SeaIce prototype is online — albeit with a subset of the planned features. Users may now log on with their Google accounts and browse or search by term string (no authentication required), add terms Continue reading Week 3 – Essential features and web deployment→

Week 2 – Finished design, starting coding

Posted on June 13, 2013 by cjpatton — No Comments ↓

Last week, the preservation and metadata work group met in Chicago to flesh out an exact specification for our online, crowd-sourced metadictionary. We discussed in detail the features that we’ll implement for the prototype, as well as future add-ons that will follow the internship. I began coding last week and Continue reading Week 2 – Finished design, starting coding→

Week 1 – Precise metadata ontology

Posted on June 2, 2013 by cjpatton — 2 Comments ↓

Our goal is to create a crowd-sourced, open platform ontology for metadata which could be applicable to just about any field or subject matter (intellectual property in general). The key innovation is that the set of terms and their relationships will evolve to peoples’ needs in a social ecosystem. We Continue reading Week 1 – Precise metadata ontology→
