I am grateful for the experience, having learned a great deal about metadata, data curation, the field of technical writing and training, and video production.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to providing feedback on the ONE<em>Mercury<\/em> interface and behavior, I accomplished the internship&#8217;s principal goals of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Outlining a workflow for recording screencasts<\/li>\n<li>Defining a style for DataONE video tutorials<\/li>\n<li>Creating a full set of videos for a DataONE tool<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>From here, a future intern can begin directly with scripting and recording videos for other tools.<\/p>\n<p>My eleven tutorial screencasts on the ONE<em>Mercury<\/em> search tool cover the following topics:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Basic Search<\/li>\n<li>Downloading Data<\/li>\n<li>Geographic Search<\/li>\n<li>Exporting Citations to Mendeley<\/li>\n<li>Exporting Citations to Zotero<\/li>\n<li>Boolean Operators<\/li>\n<li>Date Search<\/li>\n<li>Fielded Search<\/li>\n<li>Searching by Member Node<\/li>\n<li>Saving Search Results<\/li>\n<li>Understanding Search Results<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The videos are not currently publicly available, but will hopefully go live at the same time as some minor visual and organizational updates to ONE<em>Mercury<\/em> occur in the near future.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Next week we&#8217;ll be presenting the screencasting workflow and style recommendations at the Ecological Society of America&#8217;s 99th meeting. I&#8217;ll be presenting an Ignite-style talk and Amber will present a poster. We&#8217;ll also have a table where we can show the videos and give demos of ONE<em>Mercury<\/em>.
